NOVEMBER 16—Button day, Have a party with your bear day
At each stage of your baby’s life, there are always a few outfits that you hate to part with. You can save the clothes themselves, or take a button or two from each one and sew them onto a pillow made out of a favorite receiving blanket or other item. As the years go by, you’ll not only have a keepsake to cherish, but an interesting art object and conversation piece.
Older children will enjoy making a button collage. Go to fabric store and buy many different sizes, shapes, and colors of buttons. Get some glue and poster board, and have your child make a collage using the various buttons. Display the work of art proudly for all to admire!
Bring out the teddy bears and give them a hug on their special day. While you’re at it, you may want to share this teddy bear game:
Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, (sit on floor, clap hands twice) Turn around. (spin around) Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, (clap hands twice) Touch the ground. (tap the ground) Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, (clap hands twice) Reach up high. (reach hands towards sky) Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, (clap hands twice) Wink one eye. (wink) Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, (clap hands twice) Slap your knees. (slap knees) Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, (clap hands twice) Be still, please. (sit still)

NOVEMBER 20—Traffic Light Invented, Children's day
American Garrett Augustus Morgan invented the electric traffic light on this day in 1923. Previously, traffic lights had been powered by gas, with levers that had to be turned manually.
Make your own traffic light by helping your child cut a red, green, and yellow circle out of construction paper. Glue the circles onto a shoe box lid to simulate a real traffic light. Explain to your child that red means “stop,” yellow means “slow down,” and green means “go.” You can also have fun playing the game “Red Light, Green Light.” Glue a red circle and green circle each to its own craft stick.
Position yourself at one end of the room, your child at the other. Hold up the green circle and say “Walk!” Then hold up the red circle and say, “Stop!” Use different commands, such as hop, skip etc., and speed up the game as your child gets better at it. Here is a fun Traffic Sign Quiz
Today is also Universal Children's Day, established by the UN in 1954. One of the goals is to celebrate childhood. And what better way to celebrate childhood than by playing - board games, catch, hopscotch, bowling. Go out and have some fun!

NOVEMBER 23— Eat a cranberry day, National cashew day, Sinkie day
I believe that Sinkie day is the day that you enjoy all those delicious Thanksgiving leftovers while eating over the "sinkie" Whip up some great concoctions to enjoy over the sink - dinner roll, turkey and cranberry sandwiches, ham, mustard and cranberry sandwiches, sweet potato and salsa roll-ups. Mmmm
Cranberries are native to the US, and may have even been served at the very first Thanksgiving. Cranberries grow on vines in bogs (soft, marshy ground near a wetland). When the berries are ripe, the bogs are flooded which knocks the berries off the vine. The berries float to the surface and are scooped up.
Cranberries are super healthy. Filled with vitamin C, anitoxidants and PACS (proanthocyanidins), cranberries are good for your mouth (prevents bacteria), your heart, your stomach, and help prevent urinary tract infections. They are delicious and go very well with Turkey. ;-)
Try some of these terrific kid-friendly Cranberry Recipes from Ocean Spray.
How do you celebrate cashew day? Why, eat cashews of course. Or you can try these Cashew cookies

NOVEMBER 3 - Sandwich Day, Cliche day
In honor of the inventor of the sandwich—Englishman John Montague, Fourth Earl of Sandwich—get out the bread and all the fixings and start stacking! Sandwiches are a great way to introduce kids to cooking—there’s no oven or stove to worry about, no measuring involved, and you can make a sandwich as simple or complex as you like.
Challenge your child to come up with his or her own unique sandwich recipe. If it’s a “keeper,” name the creation after your child in keeping with the deli tradition of naming sandwiches after famous people. And remember, no matter how tall the sandwich, “hold the toothpicks”!
Enjoy these kid friendly sandwich recipes
Although cliches are phrases have been overused to death, we all still say them - sometimes because they are familiar, and sometimes to pass along wisdom. How many times have you heard: He's growing like a weed The apple doesn't fall far from the tree Following in his footsteps Many hands make light work
