JUNE 24 - Celebration of the Senses, International Fairy Day, National Handshake Day, Swim a Lap Day
Ancient texts show that handshaking was practiced in ancient Greece as far back as the 5th century BC. Teach your child this traditional form of greeting. In additional to shaking hands, they should learn to look the person they are greeting in the eye as they say hello and introduce themselves. Learning etiquette gives young people both the skills and confidence to be be welcomed in most social settings. Learning these skills at a young age will allow good manners to become natural life-long habits. Handshakes are also a way to identify members of a club or secret society. See how silly and elaborate a secret handshake you can come up with for your family.
The beach or a park are wonderful places to celebrate your senses. Take a few moments to listen to the waves, feel the sand or grass and the cool water, smell the flowers and the salty air, see the beautiful colors, and taste some delicious ice cream.
Do you remember the beautiful flower fairies? Visit the Flower Fairies web site and download a free directory to all the fairies.
Have some fun at the local pool this summer. You can cool off and wear out the kids at the same time. Find a community pool near you: National Swimming Pool Directory
