May 6 – Today is No Homework Day. Most schools won’t be giving the kids a day off. Many studies show that our children are overwhelmed with homework – and really need time to play,  regardless of what author Amy Chua proposes in Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother (See all Chinese Biographies & Memoirs) .  Try to make sure that even if your child has homework, that they take some time to play after school.  

It is also the birthday of Leo Leonni , who wrote Swimmy (Knopf Children's Paperbacks) (See all Children's Fairy Tales, Folk Tales & Myths Books) and An Extraordinary Egg (See all Children's Literature) and so many other wonderful books.  Pick up some books to share at the library.
