JANUARY 17 – Kid Inventors Day
According to the Kids Inventors Day website, earmuffs, popsicles and water skis were all invented by kids. Your kids probably have lots of fun ideas for things they wish they had. When your kids toys break, or pieces to games are lost, save the orphan pieces in an “invention box.” Then, let your kids imagination run wild with the pieces in the box.
Here are some tips for kid inventors. 1.Keep an Invention Diary. Keep your drawings, ideas, questions, here. Put a date next to each entry. 2. Build a prototype of your invention. ( as you refine your ideas, you may build several prototypes) 3. File a patent application.. To learn more, go to US Patent Office .
There are many contests for young inventors. Her are a couple coming up right now:
Rubberband Contest - entries due April 5, 2013 Student Ideas for a Better America entries accepted every month Exploravision contest hosted byToshiba and the NSTA(National Science Teachers Association) - entries due by January 31, 2013
