DECEMBER 1-National day without art, , Eat a red apple day, Jan Brett's Birthday
It’s unfathomable to imagine a world without art. Instead, use this day to celebrate the art around us. Take your child and go visit your local art museum. It’s ok if your kids only want to stay a little while. Talk about the pictures and sculptures that you see. How did the artist make them? Who are the artists? What colors did they use? How does the art make you feel? Walk through the sculpture gardens. Point out art on public building and in public spaces
In the museum store, buy postcards of some of the art that you saw. Have your child glue the postcards in a composition book, and have your child write down or tell you about the pictures. Don’t forget to label it with the date.
When you get home, break out the art supplies – paper, chalk, paint, glitter, feathers. Create a bean mosaic on a piece of cardboard. – Kidney, split peas, lima, pinto and black beans. (Beans and small objects are only for kids over 3)
Remember the old saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”? Today we know that apples really do deserve their reputations as symbols of good health. They contain almost no fat or sodium, are rich in dietary fiber and complex carbohydrates, and give a boost of energy that lasts longer than the temporary effects of sugar. Stock up on your favorite variety, and try your daily apple baked today. The taste is delicious, and the smell that will fill your house, divine!
